Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

The HGV Technician role is based on a 7:00am – 5:00pm schedule, though we are open to discussing alternative arrangements for the right applicant.

Hourly rate: Up to £23 dependent on experience.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled HGV Technician to join our busy HGV transport workshop. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise and a passion for keeping vehicles on the road to the highest standard.

• Undertake timely repairs of HGVs in accordance with manufacturer technical standards and timeframes.

• Identify & diagnose defects on vehicles and ancillary equipment, including mechanical and electrical issues.

• Carry out 6 weekly inspections to a high standard, ensuring all defects are identified and repaired, with a strong focus on ‘first time fix’.

• Inspect and prepare vehicles for MOT, ensuring all vehicles exceed the standard required.

• Carry out electrical repairs on a range of specialist commercial vehicles.

• Diagnostics, fault finding and repair of vehicle electrical systems

• Repair ‘damage’ defects to a high standard with a focus on upholding our brand image.
